There are many reasons that could lead to a loss of jaw bone. Periodontosis, an accident or a misalignment of prosthesis are only some of these.

The result could be an insufficient bone framework. For example, in order to assure the appropriate implant position, the bones should be restored prior to implantation.

There are different methods for that:

• Insertion of patient’s own bones (bone transplantation)
• Insertion of bone substitute materials
• Bone spreading, osteogenesis distraction
